7 Verses of Comfort for the Suffering

Suffering is a reality we all face at some point in life. Whether it comes through sickness, loss, disappointment, or hardship, pain often leaves us asking, “Where is God in this?” The beautiful truth is that God is near to the hurting. He doesn’t leave us to walk through valleys alone—He walks beside us, carrying us when we cannot carry ourselves. His Word offers comfort, strength, and hope in seasons of suffering. Here are seven verses to remind you of His faithful presence.

1. Psalm 34:18

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
You are not alone in your pain. God draws near to the hurting and holds you close in His embrace.

2. Isaiah 41:10

“So do not fear, for I am with you… I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
When your strength is gone, God’s strength sustains you. His hand will never let you go.

3. Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Jesus welcomes the weary. He offers not just relief, but deep rest for your soul.

4. 2 Corinthians 1:3–4

“The God of all comfort… comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”
God’s comfort is real and overflowing—so abundant that it can be shared with others walking through suffering.

5. Romans 8:18

“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”
Your pain is not the end of the story. God promises a future glory that far outweighs today’s trials.

6. Psalm 46:1

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
When life feels unstable, God is your safe place. Run to Him, and you will find shelter.

7. Revelation 21:4

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain…”
The day is coming when suffering will end forever. Until then, God’s promise of eternal healing gives us hope to endure.

Friend, suffering is never easy, but you don’t have to face it alone. God’s promises are a steady anchor in the storm. Each verse above is a reminder that He is with you—bringing peace, strength, and hope.

When the nights feel long and the burden feels heavy, cling to His Word. Speak these Scriptures over your heart. Let them remind you that the God who suffered for you is the same God who walks with you now.

Take courage: your suffering is temporary, but His love is eternal.
