8 Things I’m No Longer a Slave To

In Christ, freedom is more than just an idea—it is a living reality. When Jesus said, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36), He wasn’t speaking of a distant hope but a present truth. For years I carried chains I didn’t even recognize, but the gospel has broken them. Here are eight things I’m no longer a slave to.

1. Fear

Fear once ruled my heart, whispering lies about tomorrow. But God’s perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18). I no longer tremble under its shadow, because the Lord is my shepherd, guiding me through every valley.

2. Guilt

The weight of past mistakes used to crush me. I replayed failures like an endless recording. But Christ has forgiven me, washing me clean in His blood. Now I walk in grace, knowing I am a new creation.

3. Shame

Shame chained me in silence, making me believe I was unworthy of love. Yet Jesus bore my shame on the cross. Today, I hold my head high—not in pride, but in the dignity of being His beloved child.

4. Condemnation

Voices of accusation echoed in my soul, telling me I was beyond redemption. But Romans 8:1 declares: “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” The Judge Himself has spoken—I am free.

5. Addiction

Sinful habits promised comfort but delivered chains. They held me longer than I wanted to stay. But the Spirit empowers me daily, giving me strength to say “no” and to walk in the liberty of holiness.

6. Comparison

I used to measure my worth against others, chasing approval and success. But now I rest in knowing my identity is hidden in Christ. I don’t need to be like anyone else—I am exactly who He made me to be.

7. Hopelessness

Dark seasons whispered that nothing would ever change. But the God of hope fills me with joy and peace in believing (Romans 15:13). My future is not defined by despair but by the promises of a faithful God.

8. Death

The final enemy no longer terrifies me. Jesus conquered the grave, and because He lives, I too will live. Death is not an end—it is the doorway into eternal life with Him.

Freedom in Christ is not a one-time event but a daily walk. Chains may rattle and temptations may whisper, but the truth remains: I am no longer a slave. I belong to Jesus, and in Him I am free.

Friend, you don’t have to live bound either. Whatever holds you captive today, bring it to the cross. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to set you free.
